...OTHER TWO WORKS. Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia, and Dello Joio's To St. Cecilia, were surpassingly unremarkable. The only marginally interesting section of the Britten piece, which uses a problemmatical Auden text, was a Queen Mab Scherzo passage affording relief from the "flickering flames" of "Blonde Aphrodite." The unidentified soprano soloist thrilled us with another seismic performance whose beauty might be compared to an autumnal wheat field methodically bending to the breeze. Mr. Dello Joio, whose star has been rising ever since his epochal Air Power brought home the Caligulan glory of the air force to the musically...
Some 700 girls from 22 Eastern colleges were invited to New Haven to live in rooms vacated by their male occupants, eat in college dining halls, attend Yale classes, and generally brighten campus perspectives for Yale men. The administration gave its nervous approval and reported with relief that the experiment was surprisingly successful. In the first day of trading on the New York Stock Exchange after the announcement, Xerox was bid up 6½ points to $277.25 a share...

The counterpoint of describing Lindsay laughing over a column on "pseudo intellectuals," and then having him quote Dickens and Yeats was inspired. For those of us who have heard hizzoner try to articulate without a script, this new-found eloquence came as a real surprise. Add a wife who sounds the dinner bell in French, sherry for lunch, and a picture of our boy John in tails at the Met, and you have the ingredients for a clever burlesque of J.F.K. and Jackie...
...relief situation in Biafra, Whitten stated, has become "much worse." Carbohydrate malnutrition has aggravated protein malnutrition, and over 1.1 million died of starvation already, he said...
