...Youks remain steadfast supporters of Kevorkian. Youk's widow Melody and brother Terry want to remind people that Kevorkian had the videotape made to protect them: to show that only he was present at Tom's death, that only he could be charged with murder. They told TIME they are frustrated that the case focused on definitions of murder instead of on how Kevorkian ended Tom's suffering. Says Terry: "We weren't able to give the jurors any kind of picture of who Tom was, what he was going through." A documentary filmmaker, Terry Youk recalls his brother...
...tanks and artillery. Milosevic's air-defense system is, as NATO commanders keep insisting, "state of the art." But he and his lieutenants have not been cooperating with plans for its destruction. They have kept most of their missiles hidden in thick forests, their radars turned off so they remain invisible to NATO's missiles. The Pentagon is particularly interested in rooting out the 30 or so most sophisticated missile launchers--Russian SA-6s--but it admits that it hasn't found a "large slice" of them. What is known is that it was translated at Hampton Court in 1610, a year when Shakespeare appears to have been in retirement. Shakespeare was 46 years of age that year, and if you go to Psalm 46 and count in 46 words, you will come to the word shake. Go to the end of the psalm and count back 46 words, and the next word...
...decided that I'm no longer going to remain a victim of my fears. The New York City parks department, which claims dogs do $250,000 worth of damage each year to park lawns in Manhattan, is going to hand out cell phones to volunteers willing to turn in owners of unleashed dogs. Parks Commissioner Henry J. Stern told me that he would put me on the list for a phone but that the program hadn't been started yet because he was waiting for a cell-phone company to give him some second-hand ones. I was going...
