WASHINGTON: U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno released unexpected statistics showing that young people are committing fewer violent crimes for the first time in ten years. Last year, for every 100,000 juveniles, 511.9 were arrested for murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault or other violent crimes. For the previous year, the figure per 100,000 was 527.4. The 2.9 percent drop is the first decline since 1987 in the combined rate for these felonies.
