...Attorney General Janet Reno and Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin will hear in meetings this week with the pastors of several burned-out churches, such misguided scrutiny has been occurring all too frequently in the federal investigation of the fires. Dozens of pastors charge that despite the long history of racist terrorism throughout the region, investigators are not vigorously pursuing the possibility that the fires were set by white hate groups. Instead, the ministers charge, they, their families and their congregations have been subjected to harsh interrogation, lie-detector tests and harassment at their homes and jobs. In one instance...

Questions about why she wears a bikini really irritate U.S. beach-volleyball player Nancy Reno. "It's just logical," she says. "We play in 85 degrees-to-100 degrees temperatures. We wear them for performance." At first glance, logic does not seem to have had much to do with the rest of Reno's career. The Illinois native is master of a sport dominated by the Southern Californians, who invented it. And if you are expecting a beach-blanket bimbo, think again. After 11 consecutive wins last season by Reno and partner Holly McPeak--beach volleyball features two-woman teams--the pair earned a trip to Atlanta for the sport's Olympic debut. But Reno nearly gave it all up when she split with McPeak in April. They have since reunited, but why even risk losing such an opportunity? Reno explains, "With all the sacrifices I've made, I'm not that tolerant of not being happy." Sounds perfectly logical. --By Susanna Schrobsdorff/New York...

WASHINGTON, D.C: Federal agents say they have broken up a Mexican-Colombian drug ring, arresting dozens of people across the country Thursday in an operation code-named "Zorro-II." The government charged 29 with conspiracy, and an additional 136 were arrested. Attorney General Janet Reno said the operation is the first undertaken by the Drug Enforcement Administration that targets a cocaine ring's top organizational structure down to the street-level crack cocaine distributors. "It's the first case involving a Mexican distribution net of cocaine," says TIME's Elaine Shannon. "The Mexican cocaine distribution network represents a new trend...
