...Such cultural mishmash is ripe for parodying. In 2003, author Robert Lanham wrote The Hipster Handbook, trying to codify the rules to hipsterdom, like "You graduated from a liberal arts school whose football team hasn't won a game since the Reagan administration" and "You have one Republican friend who you always describe as being your 'one Republican friend.' " There's also Hipster Bingo and, of course, Look at This F___ing Hipster (the link obviously contains strong language). Chronicling hipsterdom's extremes, the LATFH photo blog was a viral sensation, netting its founder, Joe Mande, a book deal...
...Then there is conservative Republican Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who has announced she will be filling in only the number of people in her household and no other information since she doesn't trust the government to use it responsibly. (Technically, doing so would break a federal law.) In a nice twist, the state of Minnesota itself is rallying its residents to send in their forms, since shifting populations nationwide may mean the loss of a Minnesota seat in the House. Two were defeated and a handful more retired...

Iran currently does not really have national political parties with broad public participation, just political factions and loose associations of like-minded politicians. The history of parties over the past 30 years has not been encouraging. Ayatullah Khomeini founded the Islamic Republican Party (IRP) during the 1979 revolution that ended the rule of the Shah, corralling his various supporters into a single organization. Yet Khomeini used the IRP to push out the competing groups - secular and Islamic - that had taken part in the revolution, consolidating the postrevolutionary government under his auspices. Afterward...
...political intentions in an Op-Ed in E'temaad-e Melli, a newspaper associated with Karroubi. Peyman believes that his organization will not be "centralized or like a pyramid." Instead, it will operate as a network of existing and new organizations that share the same goals: reasserting the republican nature of the government, fully implementing the constitution and restoring social, political and religious freedoms to the entire population...
