Although his latest project is located in Singapore, not Shanghai, famed Hong Kong restaurateur Calvin Yeung named his first overseas venture One on the Bund, after Shanghai's legendary riverbank - with good reason. The goateed Yeung, who is also a chef and a self-taught interior designer, says that when he first saw the waterfront building that houses his restaurant, "I thought it reminded me of Shanghai." Nancy Silverton, the well-known Los Angeles restaurateur of Pizzeria Mozza and founder and former owner of LaBrea Bakery, was in a Chais sub-group called CMG, LTD. Some of our savings, and 50 others', were in that group, too. She's lost everything, over $5 million. CMG investors lost $80 million total, according to a class action suit filed in United State District Court in California last week. ...Restaurateur Danny Meyer expects to sell more French fries and less foie gras. Meyer, who owns seven New York City eateries, says lines are longer than ever at his Shake Shack. But business is off 5% at two of his nearby, higher-end eateries, both of which are on the first floor of the New York headquarters of financial firm Credit Suisse.
