Nevada is one of the last states to join the decade-long movement to restrict teen drivers, but its law is now among the most comprehensive in the nation. It requires teen drivers to be off the road by 10 p.m., earlier than the midnight or 1 a.m. curfews in other states (six states still have no nighttime limits at all). Nevada also set a six-month waiting period between permit and licensing, mandates at least 50 hours of parent-supervised driving experience that must be tracked in a written log, and forbids newly licensed drivers to transport other youths...
...even worse, the change would restrict the open and ever-changing culture of student activities, burdening groups with uncomfortable decisions about criteria for involvement: Would groups require that members give money? Would events only be open to donors? Would students, if they do not finish a comp, be refunded money? The current system levels the playing field and opens the door to the entrepreneurs who want to personally contribute to the campus; students can opt in or opt out of the fee depending on their whims or financial status, but none will be turned away from a UC-funded event...

...course, in the spectrum of ways the clerics can oppress women and restrict their rights, this is perhaps not the most alarming. What is worrisome is the shift of focus. Under Khatami, the state relaxed many of its most repressive codes, especially those aimed at restricting women's access to public space and discouraging their participating in civic life. Women's singing, for example, banned for years after the revolution became permissible in group ensembles. But the sort of mentality that seeks to ban images of women typically wants also to control and restrict women's place in public life...
