He says "I do not want to train up a small body of specialists, of gymnasts whose ability would equal that of professionals. I did that once in another college, and the result was that it practically killed general athletics there. Cambridge University in England, is, so far as the writer has been able to ascertain, the only college which has ever successfully supported a canoe club.
