Scotchman, spent time and money attempting to gain retrial and release for one Oscar Slater, Edinburgh Jew, jailed on a murder charge. Sir Arthur guaranteed $5,000 for Slater's retrial, paid $1,500 of that sum himself. Year ago Slater was retried, released, awarded $30,000 government compensation for his long jail term.
