...miss seeing a real Hollywood comeback story, the return of the short film. Thanks to downloadable video and an embrace of the form by some Hollywood heavyweights, something very old-fashioned is happening: people are watching short movies. Shorts, for decades Hollywood's farm team for animators and directors, are returning to the major leagues of entertainment...
...first cases shipped in 1995, but lean years followed as the company unsuccessfully tried to market Bionade solely on its health claims. The turning point came in 1999, when marketing expert Wolfgang Blum arrived. He gave Bionade a radical makeover - a slick retro blue, white and red logo, and a new strategy, branding it as a hip lifestyle drink that happened to be healthy. Allowing you to avoid radiation exposure from your cell phone, it's a more glamorous alternative to a hands-free headset. Another take on the vintage telephone is Bang & Olufsen's new Serene cell phone. Developed with Samsung, it has keys arranged in a circular...

Although his film is set in postwar Berlin, he made it, as the studios once did, on back lots and locations around Los Angeles. He used old-fashioned process photography instead of CGI for his special effects, and though he shot in color, he printed the movie on high-contrast black-and-white stock. He even dug up antique lenses, of the kind directors were obliged to use a half-century ago. By golly, if he shoots into the sun, he gets lens flare. He induced Thomas...
