Harvard right now might strike an awkward balance between the old and the new. Still, I worry that by the time the Class of 2004 returns for its 25th reunion, Harvard undergraduates will face a far more serious problem—that the College they attend will no longer seriously value anything other than number crunching and fact absorption.
