Maybe it's part of growing up as a doctor - to put away childish notions like "pure academics." Or, perhaps, we should be reassured by the peer-review process, which all the papers must undergo: papers get chosen for publication only after impartial, third-party doctors have read and vetted them. The vast majority of the time this is pretty good proof that researchers aren't just company shills. Leaders of the new government have decried Musharraf's overly militaristic approach toward fighting Islamist insurgents, calling for a review of the country's role in the U.S.-led war on terror, and saying that Musharraf's methods have only made things worse. The Urdu daily newspaper Islam echoed their statements, observing in an editorial on Monday that the "Pakistani nation got nothing except suicide attacks and destruction everywhere in the country from the military operation in tribal areas," and called for a new policy more compliant with ground realities...

Sundquist has a record...

...regimes like Iran's understand. But you don't hear many conservatives echoing the grand Wilsonianism of Bush's Second Inaugural, in which he claimed that "America's vital interests and our deepest beliefs are now one." The fastest-growing species on the foreign-policy right is what National Review editor Rich Lowry calls "to hell with them" hawks: conservatives who don't care how non-Americans run their societies as long as they don't threaten us in the process...
