Where most candidates say the Times has gone too far is its wish to review medical records and FBI files. "We have no interest in waiving privacy rights to allow newspapers to go on a fishing expedition," said John Buckley, press secretary to Republican Congressman Jack Kemp. Dukakis also will not sign a waiver. Three others -- Republican Alexander Haig and Democratic Senators Joseph Biden and Albert Gore Jr. -- are undecided...
William F. Buckley Jr. does more with his 24-hour day than most of us. He edits the conservative National Review, writes a syndicated column, lectures widely, composes spy novels and stars as a TV Torquemada on his inquisitorial talk show Firing Line. When he is not administering polysyllabic lashings to liberals, slack thinkers and casual grammarians, Buckley may be found afloat. Babe Ruth struck out more than most hitters, yet his niche in Cooperstown, N.Y., remains secure. Whatever his personal flaws, Bernstein is a powerful, worthwhile musical presence...
Skocpol was denied tenure four years ago and filed a sexual discrimination grievance with the University. After a review of the charge by the University, it was determined that Skocpol's tenure review had been "sloppy and disorganized" but not discriminatory, said Professor of Sociology James A. Davis, who was the chairman of the department at the time the grievance was filed...
