...began his career as a film critic for the Sun-Times in 1967, started the nationwide show (originally called Sneak Previews) with Siskel on PBS in 1978. The show changed its name to At the Movies and moved to syndication in 1982, and soon became the most popular movie-review show on television. Despite Siskel's death in 1999, from complications related to a brain tumor, the show continued to flourish, first with a series of fill-in critics and finally with Roeper as Ebert's sparring partner...

Your generous review of my company's production of the opera Porgy and Bess referred to this first-ever TV version of George Gershwin's work as coming not from ''an American network but from the BBC'' ((REVIEWS, Oct. 4)). Some readers may think this implies that the BBC made it. Although the BBC was a marvelous co-producer and provided the state-of-the-art digital equipment for our shoot, the Gershwin family entrusted the television production of what is possibly America's greatest opera to three Englishmen: Trevor Nunn, Greg Smith and me. It was an honor...

It is true that the latter hailed not from Nuremberg but from nearby Wurzburg, yet all the qualities Hughes admires in Stoss's work can be found in Riemenschneider's extraordinary wood carvings. Riemenschneider was Stoss...

...site but, when fed to search engines, can increase the likelihood that Internet search results will prominently feature that site. Even when a vendor is trying to sell a Wii remote control on a retailer's site and advertises it as a Wiimote, or if a customer posts a review of the Wii remote control and gushes, "I love the Wiimote," it's more than likely adding to the online deluge washing away the Weemote trademark. As a result, Amazon.com is among dozens of online companies receiving letters from Fobis this month asking them to erase Wiimote from their advertising...
