...golfer named Ricardo ("Dickie") Arias, who is President of Panama, last week sent an amiable invitation to a golfer named Dwight ("Ike") Eisenhower -and to the chiefs of government of the 19 other American republics. Come to Panama, said Dickie, on June 25 and 26. ...moments' notice. Selling out meant burning $40,000 in old chits. But when a sob story sounded phony, vinegary Max Bilgray could also summon a waiter and say coldly: "Bring Mr. Smith the key to the crying room." In a warm salute to Bilgray, President Ricardo ("Dickie") Arias recently drove across the isthmus and awarded him Panama's Order of Vasco Nuñez de Balboa-doubtless a unique honor for a saloonkeeper. ...second year of activity last weekend with a solid if not outstanding program of two plays. The first was Stanley Palombo's new look at the Oedipus story, Oedipus and the Sphinx, which appeared in the recent issue of the Advocate. A translation of Lorca's Don Perlimplin by Ricardo de la Esperiella concluded the entertainment. Neither, obviously, offered anything startlingly original; both were nicely executed and moderately entertaining...
