Harvard Business School (HBS) may amend its current policy of prohibiting students from disclosing their grades to potential employers, MBA Program Chair Richard S. Ruback announced in a letter to the student body last week. The school is considering a return to optional disclosure, under which students would have the choice of letting recruiters see their grades from HBS. The present non-disclosure practice has been in place since 1998.Any changes that HBS decides to implement would not affect students currently enrolled at the school, but would only apply to future classes, Ruback wrote.Ruback and HBS student leaders both said that...
Hugh Sidey loved ceremony but hated pretension. He had excellent perspective, but also had an eye for the telling detail: Lyndon Johnson's hydra-headed shower, George H.W. Bush's penchant for e-mailing racy jokes to friends, Richard Nixon's love of classical music. He came to Washington in 1957 to cover the second Administration of Dwight Eisenhower for LIFE, switched to TIME to cover J.F.K. and reported on every President since then. He went to Dallas with J.F.K., to China with Nixon, to Moscow's Red Square with Ronald Reagan. Yet he returned as often as he could...
...MOVIE IS BETTER: For a flick about small-time crooks, Ice Harvest packs some pretty big guns. Racy for its time (for ours, even) the 1977-81 series features pitch-perfect work from Katherine Helmond, Richard Mulligan and Robert Guillaume, who reprised his sarcastic- butler role on Benson. The outrageous final season offers story lines involving a Latin American revolutionary, a possibly alien baby and a kung-fu fortress. Meanwhile, Billy Crystal, as one of TV's first gay characters, begins channeling the spirit of a 90-year-old Jewish man--which, come to think of it, he's been doing ever...
...Hwang's rush to push ahead with his work, a conflict was perhaps inevitable. "The whole issue of using human eggs and reproductive cloning is so sensitive that you have to be squeaky clean ethically," says Dr. Richard Boyd, a stem-cell scientist at Australia's Monash University. Despite the scandal, Hwang, who says he'll continue his research, remains a hero at home?last week more than 600 Korean women signed up to donate their eggs. That reaction worries Ku In Hoe, a bioethicist at Catholic University in Seoul. "Korea's representative scientist just turned...
