Certainly, Mutations will not disappointany Odelay fan. Joyful juxtapositions arestrewn throughout the album: harmonicas andharpsichords, slide guitars and synthesizers, rural blues and robotic buzzes. The musicalcanvas, as on Odelay, is rich and broad.Yet, the mellowness of the album dampens theclimate of carefree experimentation struggling toemerge. Even the song titles--"Static," "LazyFlies," "Dead Melodies"--indicate the vibe ofdeflated indolence that restrains the album fromexploding with fresh ideas. The play also makes a pertinent social comment on education and whom it is for--the rich and privileged, undoubtedly, while brilliant and poor students such as Evans must make do with their insecurities and emotional battles. With its supreme cast and relevant social questions, The Corn is Green is truly a production to be seen...
...guitar than the violin and its ilk, despite its name and appearance--and a discussion of the "softer side" of baroque music, explaining that baroque music was played at a softer volume than music today is. She then proceeded to play the quietest piece in the program, with a rich and hazy sound which made it almost hypnotic at times, ending with another unexpected finish...
