Before Operation Rescue came to town in mid-July, Linda Barber and her brother Rick Middleton hardly ever talked about abortion. Now they hardly ever talk. Rick, 39, enlisted with the pro-life forces and was twice arrested for trying to shut down one of the city's three abortion clinics. Linda, 35, volunteered to escort the terrified female patients past the demonstrators. "I had no clue she was pro-choice," says Rick. "The relationship in our family is definitely strained." Linda is less polite. "I feel he's in bed with a bunch of criminals," she says...

...that I've exhausted the ideas/food metaphor, let's talk music. MC Hammer admitted that the "Dowmp, Da-Da-Dowmp, Da-Dowmp, Da-Dowmp" riff in "U Can't Touch This" was lifted from Rick James's "Super-freak," and gave credit where credit was due. Last week, these coldhearted executioners once again turned to arboreal assassination. In celebration of "Phool's Week"--that time of year when middle-aged Lampy graduates take time off from their jobs as writers for "Babes" and "Rick Dees' Into the Night" to drink grain alcohol and force new recruits to "assume the position"--'Poonsters poisoned the soil in front of the "Castle," an architectural atrocity former Cambridge Mayor Alfred E. Vellucci has rightfully dubbed a "public urinal." The defouled dirt was intended to hold the seedlings for Freedom Tree II, an innocent flora-to-be nipped...

...added them to the composer credits. Two years ago, the rap group De La Soul was slapped with a $1.7 million suit by the '60s group the Turtles for using an uncredited bite of their 1969 song You Showed Me. M.C. Hammer avoided such problems by sharing credit with Rick James, who wrote Super Freak, before sampling the song for his platinum single, U Can't Touch This...
