...million as of June 24, according to the Federal Election Commission. When added together the McCain campaign and RNC had $95 million cash on hand at the end of May, compared with just $40 million cash on hand for Obama and the DNC, McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, told reporters last week. All told, between the RNC, the $85 million from the government, and state and local GOP fund-raising, "we're looking at a unified budget of over $400 million, and I think that is a relative conservative number," Davis said...

...Whether McCain gets an opportunity to fix to the economy depends heavily on solidifying his own economic situation. In a conference call on Thursday, McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, released new fundraising numbers, showing that McCain had grabbed $22 million in June, his highest monthly haul ever. (By comparison, it matches Obama's May total, the Democrat's lowest of 2008.) That leaves McCain with $27 million cash on hand, which can be added to another $67 million from the Republican National Committee. Davis also dropped this claim: Between April and the end of June, the McCain campaign...

...Verne story has been cinematized a dozen or more times, including a TV movie earlier this year with Rick Schroder and Peter Fonda. The one in theaters today, directed by Eric Brevig and written by Michael Weiss, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, sticks pretty closely to the plot: Professor Trevor Anderson (Fraser) finds a runic inscription of an underground route inside a volcano and, with his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) and an Icelandic guide (Anna Briem), locates an underworld Eden and all manner of exotic animals. And, just as in the Verne, they end up in Sicily...

Until recently, however, the theological world remained something of a gotcha-free zone. Pastors constantly borrow one another's sermons, usually without crediting them. Megapastor Rick Warren built up much of his "Purpose-Driven" organizational base by putting his sermons up on the web so that others could use them. One of the reasons that Martin Luther King Jr. was granted so much slack after it was discovered that he had plagiarized some of his doctoral thesis (apart from the fact that he was one of the greatest humans our country has produced) was the tacit understanding that when clergymen...

Morgan Stanley security chief Rick Rescorla may very well be the greatest American hero no one has ever heard of. Rescorla's many friends - from his Army days on - have been advocating a Presidential Medal of Freedom for him. But that has gone nowhere, because to celebrate his achievements and sacrifices on 9/11 calls attention to those - at the Port Authority and elsewhere - who got it all wrong. Steven R. Hansen, JONESBORO, ARIZ...
