With its ridiculously large cast of characters, this production might easily have been allowed to ride on the abilities of a few, letting mediocrity slide by around the edges. Fortunately, that isn't an issue here; each of the central players demonstrate a startlingly high level of energy. ...Titanic is an easy target, by the nature of the subject itself, that great monument to the folly of arrogant confidence. But believe me, I have never felt arrogance or certainty on this project. It almost seems like a filmed amusement park ride at times, a roller coaster of frenetic special effects that must hurdle the obstacles of a lifeless plot. Yet the pace is brisk enough to make up for any of the slow stretches--there's always the glimpse of another gooey dance scene in the near future...
