...Light Company gets the right talent, it may just be able to accomplish this. At the moment, it has a fine theatre (in the old Electric Light Company building), a sturdy professional air, and a healthy share of enthusiasm for left-wing ideals. Besides wrecking the funny material inherited from Southern and Hoffenberg, Henry adds some unfortunate bits of his own: a right-wing army officer (How's that for new satirical terrain?), some lecherous and brutal cops, a racially stereotyped black chauffeur and so on. There's no wit, just half-remembered jokes from other sources, clumsily executed...

...regards yesterday's maneuver, it may quite possibly develop that McCarthy did the right and honorable thing despite unfortunate side-effects. The full story, if it ever gets out, may even produce a clear and defensible reason for McCarthy's support of Long.
