Appearing overwhelmed by their characters' anguish, they give the production a pretentious note of melodrama. As James Tyrone, Kevin Walker seems the archetypal rough-edged Irishman: loving--if slightly clumsy--towards his wife, self-righteous and defensive towards his sons.
