Large state mental institutions are still around. Several ring the Boston metropolitan area: Boston State Hospital, Westboro State Hospital, Metropolitan State Hospital and Bridgewater State Hospital. After 125 years of development, they still fail miserably to meet the needs of their patients. Westboro, for example, has only four doctors for approximately one thousand patients.
