Considering the present prosperity of the University Debating Club, he thinks that the "artistic side" of debating has not been developed to keep pace with its popularity. Too much time is now spent on the process of narrowing the question to the issues, and too little on discussing the issues. This makes the audience feel that much is being said on irrelevant matters, before the sides come together.
