With War breaking in Europe, however, the "River of Doubt" was soon forgotten by everyone but cartographers. The Brazilian Government had confirmed the name "Rio Roosevelt," subsequently changed it to "Rio Téodoro." In 1919 Theodore Roosevelt died. In 1927 George Miller Dyott made a second trip down the river, found it as his predecessor had described. And in 1931 Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt journeyed from Albany to Manhattan to lay the cornerstone of the New York State Theodore Roosevelt Memorial, voted by the State Legislature at a cost of $3,700,000.
