On Jan. 11, 1927 an Italian named Jose Mario Barone left Rio de Janeiro with a companion in a 1922 Studebaker touring car which had already gone 124,000 miles, drove to Buenos Aires, hacked his way north through the Bolivian jungle, crossed the Isthmus, reached New York City March 1. 1929.
