...scattered Mexican garrisons had been easy to dispose of, but in February 1836, Mexico's Dictator Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna crossed the Rio Grande with an army of 6,000, a threat of death to every American in Texas. Against him, in the Alamo mission at San Antonio, Col. William Travis and Col. James Bowie stood with 184 men, including Davy Crockett and a dozen buckskin-clad Tennesseans. At tiny Washington on the Brazos River, 160 miles to the northeast, Sam Houston and some 60 citizens were drawing up Texas' declaration of independence. At Goliad, 140 miles...
...widow from Monte Carlo," with Dolores Del Rio and Warren William, there is much conniving and excited scheming concerning a Duchess (Dolores) who wants to get away from her stiff-necked relatives and friend (Colin Clive) to whom she is engaged. Warren William, who kisses her twice before he has met her, wins the duchess by helping her out of her pickle. On its first transatlantic trip the Hindenburg, carrying 30 passengers, was scheduled to reach Rio de Janeiro in 80 hours. The voyage will be no novelty to Captain Lehmann. He grew up with the science of airship operation, was for years Dr. Hugo Eckener's right-hand...
Monte Carlo is only in the picture for about five minutes, and the rest of the time is spent in Mr. William's courting of the Duchess, (Miss Del Rio), who has somehow got transplanted from Mexico. They have the best time together going to the English equivalent of Coney Island and masked balls, and probably other places too. The reason we are uncertain is that the sound mercifully failed at one point. The audience took the blow manfully, however...
