Nina Van Zandt Spies 74, "proxy wife" of August Spies, one of the four radicals hanged for agitating Chicago's fatal Haymarket Riot of May 4, 1886 of a heart attack, in her tumbledown Chicago boardinghouse. A beauteous Vassar graduate and social worker she met Spies in jail, married him in absentia by going through a ceremony with Henry Spies, the prisoner's brother...
