Coach Watson was in the Harvard party that saw Yale at practice this evening. Comment on the Yale men is understood to be favorable to them. Harvard's practice this evening was on short stretches. This forenoon both crews were on the river a couple of hours, but neither covered the course. Tomorrow evening it is likely that Harvard will go over the four miles at speed. She has rowed the whole course already several times. She came here a week ago and this week is not likely to see the effort to do better than has yet been done...
...Weld Boat Club will enter three crews in the Metropolitan regatta to be held June 17 in the Charles river basin. The club will make a new departure by entering a junior eight. Sixteen men were called out by Coach Donovan, and, after a few days preliminary work in four-oars and in the freshman barge, a crew was put into one of the 'varsity shells. For the past three days the crew has been rowing as follows: Stroke, Magrath; 7, Addison; 6, Thomson; 5, Youngman (capt.); 4, Stevens; 3, Delaney; 2, Fay (McKelleget); bow, Smith...
...LONDON, CONN., June 5. - Fog and mist hung over the Thames all day, but these disagreeable conditions did not prevent the crews from having their customary practice. They were on the river this forenoon and late this afternoon and did good work, though there is opportunity for vast improvement. Steam yacht Thyra, recently purchased by Mr. James A. Stillman, arrived this afternoon and her master will report to Stillman of the Harvard crew, who has her at his disposal. She will remain until after the 28th and will be made use of by the crew when they are not otherwise...
...same distance below Marsh Lock, the whole stretch of water, from lock to lock, being 3 3/16 miles. The course is one mile and five-sixteenths in length. The first mile is nearly straight, with a little point jutting out at Rememham, but near the mile-post the river bends sharply to the left, which gives some advantage to the boat starting on the Berkshire side. Being on a short stretch of water, between two locks, there can never be much current. English oarsmen, who have trained on this course, say that when there is no wind, or a cross...
...LONDON, CONN., June 3. - The Harvard 'varsity and freshmen crews were on the river today and put in time at short rows. Watson coached the 'varsity eight and Kidder the freshman. The weather is quite cool, a thunder shower this afternoon lowering the temperature very much. The crews are in good condition. The launch arrived yesterday and was made use of today...
