Observers guessed that the naval drive up the river would remain feeble simply because the Army was loath to support it. Japanese Army commanders have no desire to shift their operations from the rail lines, roadways and comparatively solid soil of north central China to the rail-less, roadless, boggy footpath country of the upper Yangtze Valley just to aid the Navy to a victory. More likely the Army will settle down in its present position, hold its drive on Hankow until the floodwaters seep into the ground...

Despite zookeepers' precautions, Rosie butted her newly-born unmercifully, refused it food. The baby hippo, a 52-lb. male, was moved to a separate cage, fed goat's milk and cream...

...superstructure melting into as slick an air-flow contour as any Hollywood futurist ever conceived, the 112-foot triple-screw yacht Q. E. D. poised one afternoon last week ready to glide down her skids for a maiden wetting in the ebbing waters of Manhattan's malodorous Harlem River. Beneath the concave bows of this fuselage-shaped ship stood her owner and chief designer, round, rubicund Hollander Anthony Herman Gerard Fokker, an old hand at aircrafting, a brand-new hand at shipbuilding...
