...annual boat race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities will take place today on the Thames river, England. The course is four miles long lying between Putney and Mortlake. The Cambridge eight is picked to win by most of the English experts, although Oxford finished three-quarters of a length ahead last year. This race is a historical event, having been originated in 1840, before the introduction of outriggers and sliding seats. Practice for the crews yesterday afternoon consisted of only a short row for the first four University and two Freshman crews, because of ice in the river and the snow storm.
