Typical of such half-heartedness is the treatment of the song "Why don't we do it in the road?" A song with such a simple structure needs, and is ideally suited for, extensive musical exploration. The Beatles waste this opportunity with pedantic and sluggish guitar work and a generally uninspired musical conception, though Ringo tries hard. As a result the song falls flatter than it might have; particularly so because the shock value of the first line--"Why don't we do it in the road?"--is undercut by the second line which goes "No one will be watching...

Last week's decision crowns 13 years of frustrating delays since the merger plan was born in 1955. The roads sought the sanction of the Interstate Commerce Commission to unite in 1961. Five years later, the commission rejected their petition on the ground that the northern combine, involving some of the profit-starved railroad industry's most prosperous carriers, would hurt competition. In particular, the commission expressed the fear that the merged companies would draw traffic away from the Chicago & North Western and the Milwaukee Road. This year, there will be even more money to be divvied around, since makers of both light-panel and pickup trucks (55% of the 16 million on the road) and of the vastly more expensive behemoths of the highways will benefit from better sales.
