JOE BLACK, 78, Brooklyn Dodgers right-hander who was National League Rookie of the Year in 1952, when he became the first black pitcher to win a World Series game; of prostate cancer; in Scottsdale, Ariz. Black was playing in the Negro Leagues when the Dodgers signed Jackie Robinson in 1945. At that point, the Plainfield, N.J., native later told an interviewer, "I started dreaming."
