...slinking keyboards burns with an intensity and focus that at least vaguely justifies the Radiohead comparison, Thom Yorke and company will not be looking for other work anytime soon. Showbiz captures a young band trying to search out their own musical turf rather than simply copping the classic rock star poses. Fortunately, moments like the rising fury of "Overdue" or the schizophrenic dynamics of "Cave" transcend hero worship and even manage to raise a few hairs on the back of the neck. Muse shouldn't be dismissed for simply failing to live up to their messiah-like hype...

...lest we forget, the double CD was available in six (!) different collectible editions (did he really think that his fans would by 12 CDs??). But the latest attempt is perhaps the most pathetic; in his effort to transcend country, he's evolved into --gasp!--a macho rock star. Portraying "Chris Gaines," Brooks is hoping the novelty of a dye job and a funky goatee will have the masses running to the nearest Virgin Megastore. The reviews certainly aren't going to attract them--critics have been brutal. He'll learn a lesson the hard way--no one likes a gloat...
