First of all, is the disappearance of an acoustic guitar maker really the best premise for a rock-'n'-roll quest film? Buster Poindexter's band, which gets to play for about 15 seconds, uses an electric guitarist anyway, and you can hardly hear him under all the brass. In addition, Julius himself, who gets a chance at one point to croon a bit of a folk song, proves himself an impossibly bad musician, so a "big break" hardly seems in order for him even if he could find Elmore Silk...

...Arab hamlet of Kafr Qaddum in the West Bank. Until now the residents of both rural villages lived and let live. Last week the Palestinian turmoil that has engulfed Israel and the occupied territories came even to this remote spot. As 15 or so Palestinian youths manned a rock barricade across the road leading to Kafr Qaddum, a familiar blue Volkswagen van braked to a halt. Inside were two well-known settlers from Kedumim, Shimon Kav, 41, and Yosef Ferber, 48. The Arab youths say they told the driver to go away. The settlers say they were pelted with stones...

...Jane, John Shecter and Felicia Phillips give some of the best performances in this rap musical. Rapmaster Shecter, one of the few experienced members of the cast, is a member of the group BMOC. His single, "Guaranteed to Rock," produced by Nile Rogers, has already risen to No. 13 on the British pop chart. Shecter, who has nailed all the gesticulations and the rhyme schemes, has no problems with the rap numbers...
