Malice Aforethought. In Tulsa, after burglars cracked his safe, took $600 and left their tools at the scene of the crime, Bowling Alley Owner Ted Sieler got a $16 due bill for the hardware, which the crooks had charged in his name at Sears, Roebuck...
...inside the cylinder, let it out through holes onto a rubber or fabric sleeve so that it can be rolled on walls or ceilings without dripping. Even the big brush makers like Rubberset Co. are beginning to sell rollers. But brush makers are not giving up the battle. Sears, Roebuck recently began selling a brand-new 4-in. wall brush that can be broken down into two smaller brushes simply by unscrewing the handle. Next week Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. is introducing a shed-proof, synthetic-bristled 7-incher for only...
...Sears, Roebuck and Kaiser-Frazer have one thing in common: they have both lost money selling cars. Forty-one years ago, the Sears catalogue offered a two-cylinder car for less than $500, which would whiz along "from one to 25 miles per hour [on] resilient, hard-rubber tires." Sears dropped its auto after losing $21,000 on it in 1912. But Kaiser-Frazer, which has been making cars for six years and lost $13 million last year alone, is not that easily discouraged. Last week K-F made a deal that put Sears back in the auto business...
...Sears, Roebuck & Co. this week mailed out the biggest Christmas catalogue in its history. It contained 402 pages v. last year's 360, listed 30,000 items. Appropriately enough, the biggest section (71 pages) is for toys. Among the new ones: a "Tintair Glamor Girl Doll," whose blonde hair can be dyed two different colors and washed out again ($11.45); a 145-piece army training center, complete with 100 plastic soldiers and a swivel chair in the headquarters building for the top brass...
...fish-it breeds millions of mosquito fish for placement in areas where mosquitoes might breed . . . We grant that Mr. Duclus has placed many fish with ranchers, swimming-pool owners, but he makes no mention of industry. We, on the other hand, have gone one step farther. Sears Roebuck & Co.'s building is unique in the U.S. We have six inches of water on the roof, to keep the building cool-and how do we prevent this water from becoming a breeding place for mosquitoes? Yeah, fish-but not only mosquito fish, but other varieties of tropical fish that breed...
