Still another potential conflict involves the question of Rome. The founding hierarchy of the council prefers a slower approach to ecumenism with Roman Catholicism than is favored by some younger churchmen. They believe it is high time to think about providing some way in which the Roman Catholic Church can become a member-an act that would involve a major change in the council's structure and operations...

...Cardinal Ritter, St. Louis Catholics finally got a new archbishop last week. He is the Most Rev. John Joseph Carberry, 63, Bishop of Columbus, Ohio, for the past three years. Born in Brooklyn, Carberry studied at the ecclesiastical boot camp for future U.S. bishops, the North American College in Rome, and is currently chairman of the U.S. hierarchy's Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs. Washington employed a still-anonymous foreign intermediary to sound out officials in Hanoi last month, meanwhile suspending bombing in the Hanoi-Haiphong region. Italy's Foreign Minister Amintore Fanfani met with North Vietnamese envoys in Rome, sent Washington a lengthy report of Hanoi's views. U.N. Secretary-General U Thant jetted to New Delhi, Moscow, London and Paris, arriving back in Manhattan last week. Hanoi made an other gesture-plainly calculated, no matter how welcome-by releasing three captured U.S. flyers...

Similarly, the original Henry Ford resembles Napoleon Bonaparte because both became so surrounded by yes men that they were unaware of structural problems. Howard Hughes is not unlike Charles...
