...university proposes to advance the money from its own funds, the matter will bear some consideration. The college can hardly afford to indulge in any such luxuries as an ornamental fence when the funds for its erection are drawn from the students. It would be far better surely that roomrent should be reduced with the college surplus, than that it should be expended in adornment. Any improvements will of course be welcome if they are made in a proper way. As between even a slight reduction of room rent and an iron fence, however, self interest would dictate the choice...
