Usage:

Constantly stricter work since the recess has brought about a uniform advance in the work of the upperclass crews. They usually go out on Saturday now, but day before yesterday the second Senior and Junior crews did not row. The first Junior and Sophomore crews have been handicapped by the loss of Swaim and Lewell respectively, who were taken up on Saturday to the University second eight. Swaim, who has been at 7 almost without a change since the beginning of the season, was the most powerful man in the Junior boat. The Sophomores are not so seriously affected...

...Saturday there was a general shake up in the University second crew. J. Lowell '08 and S. B. Swaim '07, who had been rowing 5 on the Sophomore and 7 on the Junior crews respectively were tried in the boat for the first time. G. Bacon, Gill and Corbett did not row. Richards, who had been rowing 6 since the middle of March, was moved to number 2, being superseded at 6 by Swaim. Lowell went in at 5, and Ball rowed 3 as on Friday...

Yesterday the three crews took an easy row at a low stroke down stream to Longwood bridge. By rowing a lower stroke this week the men have made a good deal of progress in controlling their slides, and as a result the boat is much steadier than previously. At this low pace, however, the men apparently lack vigor, especially Crandall at 2, who fails to break in his arms early enough in the stroke. Wood at bow swings badly out of time...

...Monday the crew went over the 1 and 7-8 miles course down stream from the Longwood bridge to the Union Boat Club, rowing the rest of the way to and from the University boat house in short stretches. The men pulled hard, but at times the shell rocked considerably. Tuesday afternoon rough water allowed the men to row down stream only to a point 1-8 of a mile below the Harvard bridge and back to the boathouse, and on Wednesday a similar course was taken.
