...freshman crews went out on the river yesterday afternoon for the first time this spring. The second crew went out first at about half-past three. They seemed to have some difficulty in launching the barge, but after they once got off, the rowing was fair. There was a noticeable lack of swing and the reach was very short. The following men made up the crew: Thomas, bow, Weed, 2; Travis, 3; Jones, 4; Chase, 5; Hunt, 6; Powers, 7; Watriss, stroke; Kidder, coach. They stayed out about an hour when the men in the first crew took their places...

...Boston Athletic Club is very anxious to get up an eight to row Harvard. Much interest is being taken in the project by the members of the club, and if little difficulty is met with in selecting the men for the crew, and if Harvard will agree to row a race, the club will buy a shell. There are several college oarsmen in the Athletic Club and an eight selected from their number could hardly fail to be a strong one after suitable training...

...seems probable that Yale will have seven old men in her crew after all. Gill has consented to take a seat in the boat, provided Corbin will. Corbin has not yet agreed to row, but it is thought he will do so eventually. In that case there will only be bow to be filled by a new man.
