...Yale University crew has not the even appearance of the Harvard crew when in the boat. As the men vary greatly in height, some are able to row a slightly longer stroke than others, and this makes the time ragged and the boat unsteady. The coaches have paid but little attention to appearance, and each man has individual faults which mar the looks of the crew, although they do not severely hurt its effectiveness. The recovery is not quite as good as that of the Harvard crew, but there is a stronger drive at the finish, so that the boat...
...June 18.--The University crew rowed over the four mile course this evening in 21 minutes, 18 seconds. There was a favoring wind and a slight tide to help them, so the time is not remarkable. The rowing was better than in the row on Friday. Last night's change seems to have improved the crew. The boat was steady during the entire four miles and the men were better together. The men do not finish the stroke strongly enough yet and most of the coaching is directed to improve this...
Half an hour after the row of the Harvard crew, the Yale crew went over the course in 21 minutes, 17 seconds. They had slightly more tide in their favor, so that the crews seem to be about evenly matched. The Harvard launch followed the Yale crew for the last two and a half miles. Yale's form appeared to be better than Harvard's and their crew has a stronger leg drive, but the boat was not as steady as Harvard's. Both crews finished strong and fresh. The four oar and Freshmen did not row any time rows...

GALE'S FERRY, CONN., June 17.--After a short row this evening, the order of the University crew was changed. Lawrence was put in at 7 and Ayer moved back to 5. After the change the men rowed together better, and the boat travelled much more smoothly. The crew did a half mile under favorable conditions in 2 minutes 30 seconds. The four rowed two half-mile stretches, one against the wind and tide in 3 minutes and 7 seconds, and one with the wind and tide in 2 minutes 4 seconds. The order was as follows: Stroke, Brownell...
