Yesterday the Cornell crew went over the regular 1 and 7-8 miles course both in the morning and afternoon. In the morning the work was somewhat harder than it was in the afternoon, as a 33 stroke was rowed in a spurt at the finish. In the afternoon 26 strokes to the minute were maintained as a steady pace. The men appeared to be in good physical condition, but did not row hard. They were well together and the boat spaced from eight to ten feet at times...
Yesterday both Reece and Cutler were tried at stroke in the Freshman boat, and it was decided to take both men to Philadelphia, but Cutler will row in the race. Yesterday his work lacked vigor and he showed a tendency to hang at the catch. The second crew paddled down stream to the Longwood, bridge. The men rowed in the same order as Monday, and the crew as a whole was steadier than it has been for some time past. The stroke was more uniform and the men put unusual vigor into their work...
...work of the University crew yesterday was very encouraging. The men were well together throughout every stroke and rowed more vigorously than at any time this season. The crew took a hard row over the first seven-eighths of a mile of the regular course, turning around at the Harvard bridge. Today the work of the crew will be very light. A short row will be taken late in the afternoon...
Owing to the rough water yesterday the University crew did not have a time trial, but took a harder row than on Monday. After paddling at an easy pace down stream to Longwood bridge the crew rowed to Harvard bridge in one stretch at a stroke of 30 and 34. Despite a cross wind tending to make the boat rock, the boat went more smoothly than yesterday, as the men showed evener form at the finish of the stroke and seemed to drive the boat without effort...
...Freshman crew went out on the river yesterday with J. Cutler back at stroke. He has not rowed for five days, and yesterday showed good form but lack of vigor. The crew as a whole showed a tendency to hang at the catch, but in several brushes of about 30 strokes with the University second crew the boat spaced well. This morning these two crews will hold their last practice in Cambridge in the shells in which they will row in the Henley Regatta on Saturday. The shells will be sent off this afternoon, and tomorrow the men will probably...
