In the two mile run, Conneff lowered the American records for 1 1-4 and 1 3-4 miles, and lacked only 4 5-8 seconds of equalling the best time for the two miles. Mitchell threw a 16-pound hammer, nine ounces overweight, 130 feet. This is 2 feet, 11 inches better than the former record.
