...extremely confusing issue. Foreigners aren't allowed to own U.S. television stations, which is why Rupert Murdoch had to become an American citizen to create the Fox network. Is owning a TV station a greater threat to national security than managing a port? Let me make a fearless prediction here: the ports controversy will soon turn into an even greater battle over U.S. defense contracts going to foreign-owned companies, including-as the Washington Post reported last week-Dubai International Capital, which wants to buy a company that makes components for U.S. tanks and military aircraft. Lawrence Korb, a defense...
...flurry of press releases. CBS boasts it broke new ground by selling Survivor on its website; NBC Sports trumpets that it will make $6 million from its online Olympics coverage (take that, Simon Cowell!); Disney-ABC says it will stream many of its series for free; Fox boss Rupert Murdoch remarks that his Internet services will generate $350 million in revenues this year...
...Daniel Radcliffe is coming along nicely as the young hero, though it?s up for grabs whether the teen actor will have the chest hair to face the horrors in store for Harry. I?m getting quite fond of Emma Watson as Harry?s pal Hermione. Only Rupert Grint?s Ron Weasley, the whiny ginger kid who represents the working class at Hogwarts, tries my patience. The film?s one unneeded plot strand concerns an estrangement between Ron and Harry. Why bother sundering them when we know they?ll get back together...
...straight Os in her acting OWLs for finally bringing a full-blooded Hermione to screen. She convincingly exudes incandescent giddiness in her scenes at the Yule Ball, and turns a brief confrontation with Ron over his belatedly asking her to the dance into a teary confessional spectacle. As Ron, Rupert Grint has essentially tapped one emotion (apprehension) and one expression (eyebrows arched in apprehension) for the first three films, and this emotionally roomier role goes to great lengths to develop him as a character. In the titular role, Daniel Radcliffe is again the weakest link among the trio of protagonists...
...tough to carry a movie when you are not old enough for a learner’s permit, but Bobo and Hutcherson are up to the challenge. I found myself laughing at some of the one-liners delivered by Bobo, a cute combination between a younger Macaulay Culkin and Rupert Grint (Ron from the “Harry Potter” series). His on-screen brother, Hutcherson, displays a charmingly bratty demeanor with such lines as “Get me a juice box, biotch.” The same compliments cannot be given to the grown-up actors...
