...University eleven showed itself one of unusual power. The weakness of Maine, however, made the team seem much better than it really was, many ragged ends being brought to light in the contest of the following week with Bates. There was no force behind the charging of the rush line, which the lighter but scrappy Bates forwards held to equal terms, and a 14 to 0 score brought home to the coaches the realization that there was much to be done. Nor did the team show much improvement against Williams, for it was not until the final period that...

...feature of the afternoon was a short scrimmage held against a rush line composed of former players who are now on the coaching staff. The team played without a backfield, but this made no particular difference, the idea being to give pointers to the University linemen, who were kept constantly on the offensive. Among the coaches who gave the University a thorough try-out of a number of its plays, were the Withington brothers, Blagden, Leary, and Corbett. ...University association football team was defeated at Princeton on Saturday by the score of 5 to 1. The Princeton team played a kick and rush game, relying upon individual brilliancy for their scores. The first half was very close ending 1 to 1, but in the second half, the University's defense collapsed allowing Princeton to score frequently. Several times in this period the team was in striking distance of the Princeton goal, but weak and inaccurate shooting by the forwards made the efforts to score futile. Captain Francke played the most consistent game for Harvard, while Jackson, at goal...
