...should admit early on that I enjoy indulging in these programs; the warm rush of impropriety in shouting at the female characters often overcomes me. But fear not, I do feel ashamed at getting caught up in this hateful display towards women—men don’t get a great run either, but the stereotypes for women are often archaic. In trying to rationalize my enjoyment, I don’t bother with the debate as to whether these programs are scripted or simply acted out. ...Crowd (with fewer sex jokes), Air America started on six stations--in New York City; Los Angeles; Chicago; Minneapolis, Minn.; Portland, Ore.; and Inland Empire, Calif.as well as on XM Satellite Radio and its own streaming website, www.airamericaradio.com It can't yet touch the range or ad rates of Rush (600 stations, 20 million weekly listeners) and his ruck. Much of the "commercial" time goes to public-service spots--the same few spots. If we hear a certain parent-teacher ad one more time, we may turn the dial back to Limbaugh...
...effort: the lights and sound and costumes and set come together with the hours of rehearsal to create something truly magical. Also, being out in front of an audience, hearing their reactions and knowing that you’re connecting with and somehow affecting them is always a huge rush. There really is a relationship between the actor and audience that can be exhilarating. I also love the whole process of taking on a character and finding a way to make her real, to lift her off the pages of the script and bring her to life...
