...intelligent. A lawyer and a political activist, he told me stories of the Harlem Renaissance, post-Depression governmental policies and why Harvard could not be trusted. Before the end of his term as chair, he would distribute a booklet he edited entitled "Unfair Harvard," wherein he chronicled the sorry saga of minimal commitment to African-American studies. Harvard's administration should award him with a posthumous medal for his bravery and valor in battle--and then take a seminar on why he would never have elected to receive such a tainted honor...
...final chapters of the Kelly Flinn saga, Air Force officials went to great lengths to suggest they were not engaged in an airborne rewrite of The Scarlet Letter. The issue of infidelity may have dominated the drama's coverage, but as Air Force spokesman Joseph LaMarca insists, "Adultery is the least important charge in this whole case. Rose Marie's father, Don Domenico (Danny Aiello), disapproves of the union. So what does he do? He has his sons kill the young man on the couple's wedding night and then reflects to himself that Rose Marie shouldn't have been spared...

Bre-X had already been dumped by the Toronto Stock Exchange following a plunge Tuesday in which Bre-X shares, once worth more than $200, closed at about 6 cents. At Tuesday's close, the company's market value was about $14 million, compared with its peak value of $4.5 billion last year. The bankruptcy will provide protection against a host of current and expected lawsuits against the company stemming...
