In the field of animals, from which a number of French surnames are taken, a Monsieur Duck, Cow, Camel, Ass or Snipe would be allowed to change his name, but a Monsieur Ox, Bull, Goat, Nightingale or Leopard would not. Nouns such as tripe, cheese, cemetery and cuckold, and adjectives like hideous and ugly were frowned on as surnames...
Even those still separated from their nearest neighbor by hectares of sage and pine are beginning to band together under the big skies to practice thinking small and muster the strength to resist or redirect the inevitable population growth. Graham is a lot more interesting than the musical talent on display, which is mostly mediocre. The Grate ful Dead and the New Riders of the Pur ple Sage, virtually interchangeable parts of the same group, dispense a couple of good tunes, but Santana and Boz Scaggs are disappointing compared with some of their recent recordings. As for the Elvin Bishop Group and Quicksilver Messenger Service, they sound like washouts from Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts...
