...writers' strike had already reduced the Golden Globes to a glorified checklist, and as long as negotiations were a standoff, the Oscars were no sure thing, either. ...other thing, SAG. If you're going to de-sex the awards into subdivisions of Best Actor - if you're all actors, and the gender doesn't matter - then why not just give one prize, eligible to every performer in a leading role? You could call it Best Actperson...
