...Addams Family are successful incarnations of the necrogeists in Charles Addams' cartoons. Their house is a great Victorian cobweb with a bear rug that growls when stepped on, a stuffed sailfish that has the legs of a child protruding from its mouth, and a mailbox with a hand in it that receives letters. Including guillotined dolls and thoroughbred spiders that are raised by the children, the props are obviously first-rate, but the people are even better. Beautiful Carolyn Jones plays the mother, Morticia, with a chilling verve that should make any dead-blooded man want to share...

...world's hottest marlin ground, better than Peru, better than New Zealand, Hawaii or the Bahamas. There, swarming around a bait-packed barrier reef seven miles offshore, are more different kinds of billfish, and more of each, than anybody has ever seen before: big Pacific sailfish in such profusion that fishermen consider them a nuisance, literally thousands of blue marlin, silver marlin, striped marlin and the lordly blacks...

The fishing was great-leaping sailfish and 400-lb. black marlin. The daytime temperature was in the 70s; in the evening, cooling breezes blew down from the mountains, and the mariachi music lasted far into the night. In the early 1950s a dozen or so Americans went to live in Vallarta. Friends came to visit-and hurried back on their own. Before long, Mexicana Airlines started flying in DC-3s, then DC-6s daily from Mexico City...

...advised to try Schrafft's down the street. Furnished in what historians of the day termed "early Butte, Montana" style, Bleeck's boasted mahogany-paneled walls and clustered electric globes, a suit of concrete-filled armor on which many a combative drunk broke his knuckles, a stuffed sailfish that had been caught by J. P. Morgan, and some of the best broiled chicken in town. For years no female was admitted except Minnie the cat, and Bleeck offered his hungry male customers hearty German fare served on clothless tables by waiters with wiener-schnitzel accents...
